about me

Red dirt in my veins
Ocean at my feet
Wind in my hair
Stars in my eyes
Stories on my tongue

Who am I?

Identity is so complex but if I was to put it into one sentence: I’m a broke-as middle-aged motorbike-riding marta-marta uppity writer.

My self-published novel, When Rosa Came Home, was short-listed for a South Australian People’s Choice Award in 2015.

The draft manuscript for my next book, Where The Fruit Falls, was short-listed in the 2017 Richell Prize.

I am currently working on a couple of manuscripts, which I hope to either find a traditional publisher/s for, or the financial means to self-publish.

Earlier in 2017, I had to make the tough decision to close my independent bookshop. I’m still in debt, and still surrounded by boxes of books. My temporary online clearance ‘store’ has some great bargains.

I am currently working as a freelance writer and consultant (aka broke and job-hunting).

      • Cool Karen! I think your writing is the most brilliantly ‘real’ I’ve come across in years. No need to answer this one – compliments can lead to lurking under beds sometimes – I mean it though. This tagging was great fun too.

  1. Thank you for adding me to your circles on Google+. I see we have Carol Wyer in common and she is a dear friend to me and her books are just awesome. That led me to your blog and it’s quite interesting from what I’ve seen so far. You are busy!! I’m a blogger and want to get started with my serious writing and just can’t seem to get started. So much going through my head at 500 mph. lol I’ll get there. Looking forward to getting to know you and your work better.
